Besides the river Indus, a girl was sitting
On a cloth, trying patterns, she was knitting
She wanted to weave something new for the bride
But nothing worked for her, however hard she tried.
She stopped to rest her tired hands for a moment
And saw a lamb staring at her, a little distant
The lamb limped towards her so she took her in arms
The lamb was played with by the boys playing in the farms.
The girl gave the lamb something to eat
After eating the lamb happily gave a bleat
The girl asked the lamb," Mr. Lamb shall we work together?
And weave something as beautiful as a colorful feather?
Hearing this an Angel in the heavens cried
Not all innocence in the world had died
The Angel's teardrops came from the lamb's eyes
And fell on the cloth making a design in surprise
The girl weaved on the tears using all threads
The blues, the greens, the yellows and the reds
When finished she gifted it to the bride
The bride wore it to her wedding with all pride.
This design became much famous and even went overseas
And got its name from a town that became efficient in making these
And those who have really seen this design would agree
There never will be so beautiful a design as the Paisley.
