Price Of A Freedom

Nobody knows the real value of freedom
until it is snatched from them.
The same was true for two friends
who were put in a jail in the city of Bethlehem.

Falsely accused of the murder of the Mayor's brother
they were tortured every day.
But they put their pride before their death
and would not submit in any way.

It is quiet common to blame the poor
and the weak for what they have not done.
The only aim is to show the power of authority
nobody cares whose underneath the gun.

After many tries and tortures when the two
battered and tattered didn't took the blame.
The jailor ordered the criminals to make them speak
or their consequences would have been the same.

Now even the inmates started to fight
with the two innocent friends.
Each day had become a living hell
how to survive blows from the thousands?

One night one of the friends told the other
that he badly wishes to see freedom one more time.
The second friend promised to buy it for him
even if he had to commit real crime.

The next day to the frist friend's surprise,
the second started to fight.
Their fight was broken by the authorities
who put the first friend in a small room with no light.

This small room was a place where "an inmate
fighting with a fellow inmate was sent".
Maybe they should have added to this rule
"only if the the fight takes place without jailor's consent".

In that small room, the first friend wondered
why did his only friend did this.
He wished for freedom and how could it be found here
in this small room which appeared like an abyss.

The next day while he was crying over his fate
he heard that there was a strife.
One guard told him after controlling his laughter
his friend was killed with a knife.

Hearing  these words the first friend fainted
and lost all his control.
When he regained consciousness
he weepingly prayed for his friend's soul.

The very next day at sharp noon
the doors of that cruel room were opened as per the decree.
And when the prisoner walked out in the sun
the guard whispered in his ear,"You are free".

"Your friend took all the blame
and traded his life with your freedom.
But a prisoner is set free only at 12:00 PM
as per the laws of this Kingdom."

Now the first friend realised
why his friend had fought.
So that he may not stop him
while his own freedom was being bought

His friend truly kept his promise
and bought the freedom for first friend.
He sacrificed his life for his friend's freedom,
freedom something which other's won't even lend.

The first friend began to shake terribly
and started to weep for his friend he lost.
He wanted freedom badly but
not at such a steep cost.
